This is a picture of my paternal grandparents on their wedding day in the late 1940s: my grandmother Dorothy, ever the radiant and beautiful bride, and my grandpa Bud, the proud and handsome groom. In retrospect, this picture holds deep intrinsic value to myself and so many of my family members. My grandpa’s long and blessed life came to a close just this past January, yet the love between he and my grandma truly stood as a testament for all of us, even through those last days.
I was lucky to catch them in this quiet, tender moment last summer—an image that has served as a sweet reminder of their love’s beautiful legacy.

My goal with F&F is to provide a platform that brings people together on different levels. I’ve been brainstorming ideas to help engage my readers, and I thought this could be the perfect vehicle. Send me an old picture of a loved one, special memory from your childhood, or just a cool old photo you came across that resonates with you. Attach a hi-res version to an email, do a brief write-up as to what makes it special to you, and email it to folkandfeather@gmail.com. For each one I receive, I’ll post the picture and your anecdote on the blog. :)

Cincinnati’s lucky to be home to one of the country’s premier fashion conservatories: DAPP at the University of Cincinnati. My friend, Mallory, is a testament to the talent the school boasts, and her blog is the perfect showcase of her aptitude for both style and design. It’s been so fun to watch her evolution as both a designer-in-training and style maven—she has her own sense of flair that’s so uniquely and unapologetically Mallory, a quality I’ve found to be rare and wholly admirable. Her boyfriend, Brian, is a guest blogger and theirs is a fun relationship dynamic to see play out in the blogosphere; one can’t help but get sucked into their quirky, adorable little world. Do yourself a favor and go check out her blog and all the incredible stuff she makes and does!
Also, read her post on Folk & Feather from way-back-when! :)

A beautiful double horse head bracelet—so us! Do you notice a familiar logo in the background?
Back around the holidays, we wrote a post about Krombholz Jewelers, a local, family owned designer and retailer of fine jewelry. Shortly thereafter, we were invited (along with several other local bloggers) to be part of the Krombholz Fashion Advisory Board. Along with acquiring this new title, we were asked to style a jewelry case to be displayed in the store for the entire month of March. We’ve been chomping at the bit ever since we received the invitation, and Becki & I couldn’t have had more fun selecting pieces from the collection. Essentially, we chose pieces based on what we naturally gravitate towards—most of the jewelry ended up having a sort of natural, earthy feel to it so we added some butterflies and a wooden box to make the case complete.
The store is about to do a major revamp, offering a wide selection of fine jewelry from estates, and they’ve already got quite a few vintage and art deco pieces in stock (much of which we chose for our selections). It’s been a great experience to see such an established local businesses (three generations, to be exact) reach out to a younger audience with genuine interest in our insights. We hope to do more collaborations like this in the future—thanks again for the opportunity, Lee!

P.S. I also did an interview with Lee for the Krombholz blog, check it out here!

Beautiful earrings crafted by Balinese artisans and a stunning cocktail ring with rope detailing.

These SICK crest pendants were designed in-house at Krombolz. We love the mix of yellow and rose gold and the toughness of the pendants. We contrasted this with a long strand of mother of pearl beads.

We can’t get over the hibiscus earrings—they’re made from agate!

A gold vintage cuff with an oval coral stone.

A seriously cool Chinese gold ring with the two canine heads.
Navajo sterling silver and turquoise—to.die.for.

The whole case, complete with some natural wood accents, and of course, some monarch butterflies.

Ventured down to Berea, KY on Saturday night for some good ol’ Contra dancing (google if you’re unfamiliar). Appalachian culture at its finest…

Denim on a printed hoodie on a green gingham button down. So good.

Loved her pleated maxi skirt.

Top: Marshall’s. Skirt: Urban. Tights: Hue. Shoes: Kimchi Blue/Urban. Necklace: House of Harlow. Watch: Timex. Bracelets: Madewell.
