Gem-Hunting in Reading
I had the pleasure of going to the Grand Antique Mall recently, and since this visit I wholeheartedly believe antique malls were created for rainy afternoons. At the Grand Antique Mall you find a mix of vendors selling the mind-blowing to the bizarre at all price points. We had some laughs encountering a booth of semi-pornographic paintings (antiques, eh?) as well as creepy clown pictures. Perhaps the most terrifying/upsetting was the taxidermic polar bear that pulled you into a claustrophobic space, only to reveal an aggressive stuffed turkey and a large tarantula. The good stuff? Oh, there was plenty of that! There were beautiful pieces of furniture and plenty of over-the-top chandeliers. The jewelry selection was out of control—I couldn’t help myself from fawning over each case of gaudy gems. I was lucky enough to get a special present from a special person—the sterling silver north-south Navajo ring shown below. Is that opal or moonstone? (The world may never know).

Can you identify this stone? XOXO -Becki
