The Short End of the Dress

I headed back down to Lexington on Friday for my friend Morgan’s 21st birthday.  I brought a new dress that I’d been dying to wear out—a unique vintage find from Lexington’s own Street Scene.  At the time of purchase I thought it had fit me perfectly, but when I tried it on again only hours before dinner, I realized it was more of a tunic than a dress. Luckily, my significant other is an expert tailor in the making and quite plucky to boot, so with a healthy dose of optimism we headed to the local fabric store. We picked out some solid black satin to contrast the pixelated polyester print and set to work (read: he set to work, I played the role of hype man).  He added about 3” of length and it turned out perfectly—in fact, I’d wager it’s a far superior version of the original.

Dress: vintage/Street Scene. Shoes: BCBG. Bracelets: Madewell. Earrings: Forever 21. Lipstick: Maybelline “Fifth Avenue Fuschia.” Nails: Revlon “Blue Lagoon.”

Cheers to 21st birthdays, to new friends and love, and to leaving things more beautiful than you found them!
