Bella Luna

While I try not to eat it with any sort of frequency, there’s  a major soft spot in my culinary palette for Italian cuisine.  I hadn’t submitted myself to a carb coma for some time, so I took the opportunity Friday night to return to one of my favorite local eateries, Bella Luna, for a much-needed pasta fix.  The ambience of the space is charming and cozy, and the family-owned quality is obvious throughout the restaurant.  I started with a glass of cabernet sauvignon—my go-to red for pairing with pasta (and let’s be honest, pretty much anything else).  Next came Mozzarella in Carozza, comprised of a hefty piece of buffalo mozzarella sandwiched between two ample slices of grilled Italian bread, with marinara sauce for dipping.  I’d had this before and it was even better the second go ‘round—it’s basically like the best, most extravagant cheese stick you can think of.  The second appetizer was Polpette di Melanzana, or crispy eggplant meatballs.  I’m a huge fan of this underrated vegetable, and its consistency was complimented well by its crispy shell.  Last came a delicious salad and the main course: prime rib cannelloni.  This dish is award-winning and it’s easy to see why—the prime rib is cooked to perfection and it blends so well with the pasta and slightly sweet sauce.  I’ll certainly be back for more once my next Italian craving hits…

On a side note, I’d like to highlight the gorgeous coat I’m wearing.  I featured it in a “Totally Obsessed post,” and was thrilled to finally be able to wear it out.  Its blue suede, bracelet sleeves and fur collar are absolutely to die for—and I snagged it for a CRAZY deal at Casablanca Vintage.  Thanks Teddy!  :)
