Apparition of Giselle

We’re fortunate to live in a city wherein the arts community is thriving and vibrant. The Cincinnati Ballet and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra are just two of the organizations that continue to attract some of the best talent the creative world has to offer, and we had the unique opportunity to witness their collaboration last weekend for the Ballet’s performance of “Giselle.” The dark story behind the show was perfectly appropriate for Halloween weekend (the entire second act takes place in a graveyard!)—it revolves around the character of Giselle who dies from heartache after being betrayed by her love. Her spirit goes to dwell in the forest with those of other double-crossed women, who subsequently lure men into a dance til their death. Neither of us had been to the ballet in quite some time, and we were amazed by the technical skill and gracefulness of the dancers. Not to mention, ballet takes some serious muscle power! The symphony sounded amazing as always, aided by the awesome acoustics at Music Hall. We absolutely cannot wait to go back again—we’re thinking the Nutcracker’s next on our list!

Post-performance, we took a stroll around the beautiful Eden Park. The colors of autumn have really set in, and the heavy rain we’ve experienced this year has made for some gorgeous foliage. Cincinnati is lovely in the fall—we’re hoping it sticks around!
